TrueConf Server 5.5 major update: new messaging features, surveys, and layout templates
We are happy to release TrueConf Server 5.5, a major update of our team messaging and video conferencing platform. The latest update brings new chat features, surveys with full-fledged campaigns, conference layout templates, extended browser chat capabilities, and much more.
Upgrading to TrueConf Server 5.5 requires re-registration of your video collaboration platform and purchased technical support package
We also held a webinar where we talked about the TrueConf Server 5.5 update.
Surveys
We have added a multifunctional tool for collecting feedback – Surveys. The new module offers flexible configuration and allows analyzing the survey results without using third-party services.
The feature is available in TrueConf 8.5+ for Windows, Linux, and macOS, in TrueConf 3.8.2 for iOS/iPadOS, and in TrueConf 3.1 for Android
Creating surveys
Surveys can be easily adjusted to any scenario: from short anonymous forms with multiple answer options to detailed questionnaires with the possibility of answering in free form. Users of TrueConf Server 5.5 can create surveys both in client applications and in the web interface of the TrueConf Server personal area.
TrueConf Server administrators can create surveys in the corresponding section of the control panel and assign their owners.
When creating a survey, you have the option to make questions either optional or required. Additionally, a 16:9 aspect ratio image can be attached to each question or answer.
Campaigns
Several Campaignscan be launched simultaneously for each survey to help divide respondents into groups and analyze their answers in detail. The survey owner can:
- make the survey anonymous
- set up access for external users
- set a short ID that will become part of the invitation link.
Each campaign can be started and stopped independently.
Final analytics
The owner can check out detailed statistics both for each campaign individually, and for particular participants, if the survey was not anonymous.
How to share the results? In the Responses section, click on the icon in the top right corner.
Access configuration
TrueConf Server administrator can set up access for specific user groups to create surveys.
Layout templates
In the previous major update TrueConf Server 5.4 – we updated the layout editor for holding online meetings in any suitable scenario. Now there are even more capabilities for flexible customization of video layouts.
Owners and moderators can now create several layout templates for different user groups and switch between them on-the-fly using the real-time meeting management.
Advanced messenger and new chat features
The features are available in TrueConf 8.5+ for Windows, Linux, and macOS, in TrueConf 3.8.2 for iOS/iPadOS, and in TrueConf 3.1 for Android
Creating folders
Users can easily organize their personal and group chats into themed folders, making it easier to find relevant conversations and focus on the work tasks without getting distracted by unrelated discussions.
All folders are placed in the Chat menu which, if necessary, can be hidden using the corresponding button.
Chat archive
All irrelevant chats can be moved to the Archive for now to declutter your chat feed. If needed, the archived conversations can always be restored.
Chat pinning
Pin important and frequently used chats both in the main chat list and in folders. You just need to select the Pin option in the context menu, accessed by right-clicking.
These chats will appear at the top of the main list and will be marked with a corresponding icon.
If a chat is pinned in a specific folder, it won’t be pinned in other folders or in the main chat list
Channels
We have added the ability to create Channels to post corporate notifications, event announcements, memes, and other useful information.
Support for chatbots
TrueConf Server 5.5 update introduces the ability to create multifunctional chatbots for automating work processes and integrating with third-party services. Learn more on the TrueConf Chatbot Connector page and in our documentation.
Mark as unread
Personal and group chats can now be marked as unread so that you don’t forget to return to the conversation later. Besides, you can use the opposite feature — mark the chat as read in order to reset the unread message counter and focus on more important tasks.
Automatic deletion of unused chats
Ad-hoc conference chats without any messages will be automatically deleted after client application restart.
Conference improvements in the browser
In TrueConf Server 5.5, we have also expanded conference chat capabilities for participants who use browsers to connect. Users now have access to:
- Draft synchronization
- “Typing…” status
- Read status
- Preview images sent in the chat
- Spell check.
For convenience, we have also moved the reaction button to the conference control panel.
Conference branding
Both administrators and users of TrueConf Server 5.5 can brand every conference by adding a background image and logo — they will be displayed in the streaming and video conference recordings, as well as they will be seen by participants who have connected to the conference via a browser and SIP/H.323 devices.
How to enable: go to the Advanced — Visual settings tab when scheduling a conference in the TrueConf Server personal area or in the TrueConf Server control panel
On-the-fly audio remark disabling
Earlier, in TrueConf Server 5.4 we added the ability to disable audio remarks for conference participants (Moderated role-based mode).
Now the owner and moderators can allow and prohibit remarks directly during the meeting using the real-time conference management.
User rights setting in different network segments
We have added the ability to set up permissions for TrueConf Server users depending on the network segment they are connecting from. Thanks to this administrators will be able to flexibly manage user access to system features, ensuring security and compliance with corporate policies.
New fields in the user profile
In TrueConf Server 5.5, we have expanded the list of custom fields for user accounts. Administrators can now specify a position of an employee in the profile, as well as the department or branch in which they work.
With configured LDAP integration, these fields will be filled in automatically.
Other changes and improvements
- TrueConf Server administrators can now configure the data displayed in push notifications that users of TrueConf mobile applications receive
- We’ve added support for integration with the Keycloak authorization provider
- We’ve added the ability to resend an email invitation to any participant of a scheduled conference when editing it.
