How to Adjust Audio Settings
TrueConf keeps a close eye on the client applications it offers to make sure that you enjoy stable high quality video calls and conferences. If you happen to experience any audio problems in our client applications, don’t worry — we’ll help you troubleshoot them easily! We also recommend using the latest versions of our solutions!
Common Audio Problems During Video Conferences
Problem No.1: Poor Audibility
Possible causes:
- Incorrectly selected audio devices in TrueConf application settings.
- Check if a device is correctly selected in the hardware settings.
- The other party hasn’t properly configured their audio devices.
For a start:
- Check the audio volume control.
- проверьте правильность выбора устройства в настройках оборудования;
- Test your device.
To adjust your audio devices, go to the application hardware settings. Here you can also disable Automatic Gain Control to manually adjust the microphone sensitivity level.
Problem No.2: Echo Effect
TrueConf applications are equipped with their own echo cancellation system. If it can’t keep up, you could ask the other party to:
- Bring down the speaker volume
- Move their microphone away from speakers
- Use a headset
- Check if the echo cancellation is enabled
Problem No.3: Audio Delay or Disappearance
Possible causes:
- Unstable or insufficient Internet connection. TrueConf applications adapt to communication channels, increasing audio buffering and causing audio delay.
- Other applications using your network (P2P clients, etc).
- Working against the background of applications which use many system resources (e.g. flash animation).
- Your computer doesn’t meet the system requirements.
Possible solutions:
- Check the application network settings (Limits section).
- Close other applications that are using your network traffic or computer resources.
- Check if network hardware functions correctly.
- Try using a more powerful computer for video conferencing.
Problem No.4: Background Noises
During a video meeting, background noises are most often caused by computer fans, automobile noise, wind, or incorrect computer system settings.
TrueConf client applications provide the built-in noise suppression feature. Its work is based on the AI model which was specifically trained for such purposes. Thanks to this feature, all extra noises will be removed from your audio stream.
A user needs to enable noise suppression. To do it:
- Open application settings.
- Go to the Audio and Video → Audio section.
- Check the Noise suppression box in the menu.
- Select one of the options in the drop-down list:
- Automatic – the level of noise suppression will be selected automatically depending on the performance characteristics of your device.
- Standard – the moderate level of noise suppression which is more suitable for less powerful devices.
- Enhanced – the most effective mode of noise suppression; however, it increases CPU load.
Please note that activation of noise suppression will increase CPU load on relatively weak PCs.
If noise suppression does not solve this problem and you are using Windows, the problem may occur due to OS settings. To fix this issue:
Step 1. Click the Start button.
Step 2. Go to Settings → System → Sound.
Step 3. Go to Additional settings and click on Sound control panel. You will open the control panel for managing recording and output devices.
Step 4. Select a device on the Playback tab, and click Properties.
Step 5. On the Enhancements tab, check the box Disable all enhancements.
If the problem persists, take these steps:
- Find a quiet place (close the windows).
- Place your microphone closer to yourself and away from noise sources.
- Use a headset microphone, as microphones built into laptops and webcams are more sensitive to external noise.
Code of Conduct
- Speak in turn, don’t interrupt other users.
- Speak in your normal tone of voice (don’t shout or whisper).
- Mute your microphone when you sneeze or call someone via a mobile phone or no longer need to speak during a meeting.
- Keep your microphone as far as possible from paper documents you are holding and flipping through because this can lead to additional noises.
- Don’t get distracted by anything else, for example, don’t work on any parallel tasks while you are speaking during a conference.
- Make sure to check your devices and connection (audio, video, and the Internet) in advance before connecting to TrueConf Server.
- Use a neutral background fit for business purposes (or use a custom background).
- Introduce yourself: this is particularly important when you are talking to a large audience with guest participants.
