This has meant the development of a new business culture where video conferencing has become a necessary part of doing business. The global market has shifted towards mobility: Professionals now have constant access to high speed Internet and cheap web cameras, headsets, and speakers. The HR recruitment market is rather competitive and quick to adapt to the rapidly changing needs of their companies, and recruitment specialists must constantly improve recruitment techniques and introduce new working methods. According to a study by Redshift Research, video conferencing ranks third (47 percent) among the business communication channels for HR-specialists, after e-mail (89 percent) and voice (64 percent).
A notable example is the growing use of video conferences for conducting job interviews. Video interviews allow HR representatives to preserve a recording, make a thorough analysis of the interview, and show the recording to an employer. The employer, in turn, does not have to spend time or be present in person to see and evaluate the candidate for a given position. Video interviews indicate professionalism on the part of an HR manager, whose mission is to unlock the potential of the candidate and present it to the representatives of the company. Those representatives can participate in the interview and review, regardless of their location.
This trend is not only about keeping up with modern technologies. The other main reasons for the increasing popularity of video conferencing are saving on business trips, closing vacancies quicker, and capitalizing on opportunities to reach geographically distributed candidates. Job interviews via video conferencing allow an interviewer to accurately estimate the communication skills of the applicant, as the distance makes it easier to remain impartial and attentive to detail. We would boldly predict that in a few years, this method of recruiting using video conferencing will become common practice for all interviews. The number of HR companies using video conferencing for recruitment and assessment increases annually, and soon there will be thousands of them. This has become especially noticeable since the introduction of WebRTC.
