Self-hosted video conferencing exists for one reason: organizations that can’t put voice, video, and chat traffic on someone else’s cloud still need modern collaboration tools. Banks, government agencies, healthcare providers, and companies under strict data residency rules fall into this category. TrueConf is built specifically for that requirement, running entirely on infrastructure the customer controls, whether that’s a physical server, a virtual machine, or a Docker container on Windows or Linux.
The latest release focuses on three things: faster meeting controls for hosts, tighter security tooling for administrators, and closing usability gaps between desktop, mobile, and Android TV clients.

Faster Meeting Controls
The real-time management console, previously buried in a hidden menu, now sits behind a dedicated “Manage” button. From there, hosts can enable server-side recording and transcription in two clicks, move the panel to a second screen, mute everyone but the speaker, lock the meeting, stop a specific person’s screen share, or disable audio remarks, the short voice interjections some Smart Meeting participants can send even while off-screen. That last control matters most for large webinars, where uninvited audio can be disruptive.
Recordings Without the IT Ticket
Previously, accessing a server-side recording of an ad hoc (unscheduled) conference meant asking a system administrator for a link. Now, every user’s personal area, reachable from the client’s profile menu, lists recordings and transcripts for any conference they hosted or moderated. Empty ad hoc chats (no messages, files, or images shared) are also now hidden from the main chat list automatically, though they remain accessible through call history.
Security and Admin Controls (Server 5.5.4)
- Per-device session management — administrators can see every authenticated device per user and remotely sign one out or disable auto-login, useful when a device is lost or compromised.
- Field-level federation privacy — control which Active Directory or LDAP fields (name, phone, department, etc.) are visible to users on federated external servers.
- File type and size controls — configurable allow/block lists for file extensions, plus adjustable size limits, with a default blacklist covering common executable types.
- Custom TURN/STUN servers — browser-based (WebRTC) guests can be routed through internal relay infrastructure instead of public servers, protecting internal IP and call metadata. The native TrueConf client doesn’t need this, since it’s used a proprietary NAT-traversal-free protocol for nearly 15 years.
A related addition: a configurable message edit cutoff (recommended at 48 hours), useful where a chat message functions as a business commitment.
Mobile and Android TV
Mobile clients now surface full calendar and Outlook events directly in the conference panel, support sending multiple images without compression, and let users prioritize resolution or frame rate when screen sharing, depending on connection quality. New users can be onboarded with just a corporate email address; the client resolves a DNS TXT record to find the right TrueConf server automatically, removing a common onboarding friction point in multi-server deployments.
Android TV remains a differentiator: TrueConf is one of the only platforms with a dedicated Android TV interface, fully navigable with a standard five-button remote, supporting USB cameras, external microphones, and SIP calling, turning inexpensive TV hardware into a meeting room system.
