On the request of customers evaluating the video conferencing system, testing was held at the COSMOS Research Center using Gilat’s SkyEdge II HUB and VSATs to enable network channel access. Experts conducted several multi-point video conferences and point-to-point video calls as part of the evaluation.

“TrueConf software-based video conferencing system is an easy to use and reliable solution for satellite channels when the situation demands immediate communication,” said Alex Turiy, Head of the Television Network Development Department at COSMOS Research Center. “Of particular note is the compatibility between Gilat and TrueConf systems, UDP Multicast support, and the high quality of conducted video conferences.”

Tests of point-to-point video calls were performed both in Star topology and in Mesh topology with subscribers located behind the VSATs. High throughput 2Mbps links were configured per user that allowed transmitting HD video over the satellite. Multi-point video conferences were tested with up to 6 participants simultaneously using TCP and UDP protocols with a main focus on Multicast mode that allows significant saving of space segment in the VSAT networks. Experts rated the quality of voice and video as excellent in all the tests and confirmed the full compatibility of the TrueConf software with Gilat’s satellite equipment.

“We are pleased to have worked together with TrueConf to prove the viability of the video conferencing solution running over our Gilat satellite equipment,” said Sergey Bityukov, Head of Business Development of Gilat Satellite Networks. “We look forward to working with TrueConf to ensure their customers receive the communications infrastructure they need to satisfy their business requirements.”
