Differences and Similarities Between User Attitude towards Video Conferencing in Poland and Russia

TrueConf and Garets Sp z o.o. summarized sectoral study based on data from Video+Conference event in Warsaw, which was attended by 50 specialists and directors of IT departments of enterprises and organizations from Poland, including AV integrators. According to the study, Polish customers consider video conferencing rather as an element of meeting rooms, while in Russia more and more customers are considering video conferencing as a tool for communication directly on workplaces.
According to the study, the most important criteria in choosing a video conferencing system for the respondents was the cost of implementing a video conferencing solution, along with video and audio quality, gaining 75% and 53% of votes, respectively. The next in importance were safety and integration with external equipment - 38%. Similar statistics we observed at Russian video conferencing market, but with a slightly different numbers (70% chose the audio and video quality, 65% - the cost of implementing a video conferencing system)*. The availability of cloud and mobile versions of video conferencing clients are not significant for either the respondents from Russia or Poland. It turns out that the preferences of Polish customers are very close to those of Russia, but with some differences.
Most of the respondents (over 65%) prefer to own a video conferencing system within their private network, and not to use it from the "cloud" (about 5% of customers use cloud video conferencing). A similar situation was observed in the video conferencing market in Russia a few years ago, but at the moment we see a tendency of growth in demand for cloud solutions.*
We believe that Polish video conferencing market, as well as the Russian one, has a great potential for growth, since more than 72% of respondents plan to expand their video conferencing system, replace it with a new or expand an existing one.
According to the study, over 63% of the respondents organize video conferencing sessions using meeting rooms equipped with a video conferencing system, which is radically different from those in Russia, where 57% of users prefer to organize video conferencing directly from their workplaces.
Based on the foregoing, it is logical that the undisputed leaders of peripheral equipment were webcams or built-in cameras, scored more than 58% of the votes. Second place was taken by PTZ-cameras: they are used by 36% of the respondents. IP-cameras were preferred by only 22% of the respondents, and documentary cameras gained 5% of votes. Data for Russia is also very close to these figures: 76% of respondents use a webcam, 35% - PTZ cameras, 20% - IP-cameras.* These data confirm the similarity of consumer preferences on video conferencing market in Poland and Russia.
We received significant differences in the statistics over preferable audio equipment: headsets are the most popular among the respondents (over 41%) along with built-in laptop speakers/microphones (38%), and only a quarter of those present at the event indicated that they use speakerphones.
In general we can say that, despite some differences and stereotypes associated with traditional hardware video conferencing systems, customer needs from Poland correspond to the Russian of 2-3 years ago and actively evolve towards the use of modern software solutions. On the other hand, we hope that the Video+Conference events, will accelerate the process and help Polish customers to better understand the technology and modern trends in video conferencing, as they did in Russia.
