What equipment is better to use in the conference room?

You can connect any professional or manned camera through a video capture card to a computer which is used as a terminal. You can display the picture through a projector or on wide screen. We recommend connecting the conference room sound system to the terminal through an audio mixer with hardware echo cancellation.

What ports should I open?

To work with TrueConf Server video conferencing server you need to open only one TCP port on the server, and that is 4310.

To work with TrueConf Client applications you also need to open only one outgoing port which can be reappointed by the administrator with a help of TrueConf Server Manager application. It’s 4307 port by default.

I’m inside the corporate network behind the firewall. Does TrueConf work in these conditions?

Yes, it does. You only need to fulfill the conditions of the opened ports, described in the answer to the question 'Which ports should I open?'

Several participants of a group video conference have their own firewall installed. Will TrueConf work in such conditions?

Yes, it does. For that please make sure all the users have the 4307 outgoing port open.

What are the requirements to the network channels for the client application and the server?

• For a usual video call HD on the client application 128 kbps will suffice. For trouble-free work we recommend using from 380 to 512 kbps channel in both directions.
• Recommended transmission capacity for the server channel depends on the quantity of simultaneous group video conferences and the number of participants. To hold one 6-on-6 conference recommended outgoing connection speed should be no less than 3 Mbps, and incoming speed not less than 768 kbps.

How much does client software cost?

It’s free to use. Client software is part of the system and doesn’t have to be licensed separately.

What types of video conferences are available from TrueConf?

TrueConf offers 4 types of video conferences:

• point-to-point video conference or 1-on-1 video call HD
• Multipoint Video Conference (or Symmetric Group Conference) with up to 16 participants all of whom are able to see and hear each other
• 4-on-96 virtual meeting in which up to 4 participants can broadcast their video and audio simultaneously to the rest of the group and the broadcaster’s role can be handed over to any other user according to the established rules;
• asymmetric group video conference or video lecture allows to connect up to 16 participants so that all of them are able to see and hear only the speaker, while the speaker in his turn can see and hear all the participants of the video conference.

What are the major differences between TrueConf video conferencing system and Tandberg, Polycom, Sony, etc.?

• The main difference is that unlike the traditional video conferencing systems TrueConf is tailored to work in unstable network conditions, i.e. using the ordinary Internet connection. The traditional systems in their turn require expensive channels with a guaranteed transmission capacity.
• TrueConf systems do not require any specific equipment; the usual computers can be used as servers and terminals;
• TrueConf offers convenient collaboration tools;
• TrueConf solutions are significantly cheaper.

Can I use H323 or SIP terminals in TrueConf video conferences?

How to get TrueConf Server trial version?

To get the trial version of the server you need to fill in the corresponding application form and have Internet connection through TCP 4310 port between your test server and our licensing server. What ports does the TrueConf system use?

For incoming connections from client applications a default TCP 4307 port is used. You can reset it to any other that suits you better in the TrueConf Server configurator settings. Upon registration of the purchased or trial server a TCP 4310 is also used, for outgoing connection to check up the trial key.

How many subscribers can use one TrueConf server simultaneously?

TrueConf Server is able to support up to one thousand on-line users at at time. The exact number is defined by the number of the acquired licenses.

Is it difficult to tune a TrueConf Server?

That is really easy. Usually it takes from 5 to 15 minutes to do that. In the Administrator’s guide, which gets installed together with the server you can find a special section named 'How to get started?'

What do you mean by the number of on-line users?

1. In a symmetric video conference (multipoint) – up to 16 participants;
2. In an asymmetric video conference (video lecture) – up to 16 participants/students;
3. In a role based video conference (virtual meeting) – up to 120 participants (using UDP Multicast technology – up to 250);

How can I start a group video conference on the VCS server?

What are the TrueConf Server Trial Version Limitations?

• The validity period is 14 days from the moment you fill in this application form. Can be extended upon your request;
• Number of online users of this version is 9.
• Your test server should have a permanent direct Internet connection (NAT is supported, Proxy is not) through the 4310 port to be able to get the license information. The only information that is sent from your account during trial period is start-up registration of the server and anonymous usage statistics are. When the video server is purchased this type of connection is not necessary.
• The user database is already filled in with the standard fixed names and passwords.
• Duration of every conference is limited to 15 minutes. The number of simultaneous conferences is 4.
• The modes available for testing:
  • Video call HD;
  • Group video conference (everyone can see and hear each other) for up to 9 participants;
  • Virtual meeting (everyone can see the Host, and the Host sees everyone) for up to 9 participants;

Yes, he can. Such interconnection for transmission of sound and video is attained with a help of TrueConf H.323/SIP Gateway software.

It’s a software system which gets installed on a usual PC, and allows you to use the devices which work according to the H.323/SIP protocol, as video conferencing terminals in the network organized on the basis of the TrueConf Server systems, and also makes it possible to hold personal and group video conferences between the user of H.323/SIP terminal and TrueConf Server users. At the same time video connection is provided inside as well as outside the LAN, e.g. via Internet or VPN.

What are the requirements for using HD in the conference?

The requirements for utilizing HD in the conference are as follows:

Your conference partner shall provide:

• availability of a quad-core processor, Class Core Quad, i5, i7;
• availability of a cam supporting HD 720p resolution for the image acquisition;
• for the moment when the software starts and in the course of the conference there are no other programs running that load the processor for more than 25-50%;
• availability of the outgoing communication channel at 1Mbit/s minimum;

You shall provide:

• availability of the incoming communication channel at 1Mbit/s minimum;
• availability of a dual core processor at 1.5 – 2 GHz, or of a single-core processor at 2.5 – 3 GHz.

What is the difference between the TrueConf Online service and TrueConf server?

• The server gets installed in your company network and is it you who control it, sign up users, give access to the service. You can install the server in a network isolated from Internet. TrueConf servers can operate through VPN and Firewalled networks.
• For the service our servers are used. Therefore its capabilities yield to those of the TrueConf dedicated servers, but at the same time are ideal for private usage and small businesses.

Where and how can I get TrueConf Client application?

TrueConf Client application is supplied together with TrueConf Server. It is created in the TrueConf Server Configuration manager after the registration so that it automatically connects to your video server. To get TrueConf Client software you have to:
• Open TrueConf Server Configuration manager;
• Go to the “Application” tab and click on “Make Installer” button;
• In the opened folder you’ll find a TrueConf Client client app installer.
